Two teams desperate to win ended up splitting points as
NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) drew 1-1 with Delhi Dynamos at the
Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday.
It was an impressive performance from the visitors who
recovered from the 5-1 thrashing at Mumbai in their last match
Portuguese midfielder Simao struck within seconds of
entering the pitch as Northeast United FC rallied to hold Delhi Dynamos
to an exciting 1-1 draw and spoil host skipper Roberto Carlos' first start in
the Indian Super League on Tuesday.
As the ball curled into the net leaving Dynamos goalkeeper
Antonio Doblas clueless, the huge army of Northeast United fans who had trooped
into the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in large numbers, went berserk. The Mexcian
wave was witnessed a couple of times but the new ‘torch wave’was on a display
often, with the crowd switching on their mobile phone torch as stretching it full
length.
Taking the attack, Francis Dadzie, Diomansy Kamara and Sanju
— three of the five players of NEUFC who came into the team after missing the Mumbai match
— were on the go from the start but failed to find the breakthrough.
In fact, for the first 20 minutes, NEUFC virtually camped in
the Dynamos half, the host hardly getting a look-in.
