Shiva Thapa has become the highest-ranked Indian boxer, zooming to second in the latest international rankings. He had won a bronze medal at last month's World championships in Doha. Shiva was placed second with 1,550 points in the 56 kilogram category, up five places from the previous list.
The top spot was occupied by Irishman Michael Conlan with 2150 points, who won the gold medal at the World Championships. Vikas, who lost in the quarterfinals of the Doha event, was the next best-placed Indian at sixth in the 75kg middleweight division.
Shiva Thapa is the youngest of six children born to a Nepali origin father Padam Thapa, a karate instructor in Guwahati. His elder brother Gobind Thapa was an Assam state-level medal winning boxer.
