A red alert has been sounded across Assam ahead of the Independence Day celebrations. Senior police officials said that ULFA-I, NDFB(S) and some other outfits may try to create disturbance in Assam. A group of ULFA militants are believed to have sneaked into the state. Security has been beefed up across the state including Guwahati. Assam government has sought additional forces from the Centre to be deployed in the state.

Security forces have arrested four militants of ULFA-I and NDFB(S) in separate incidents in Assam, police said today. Official sources said, while three militants belonging to Songbijit faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland were arrested from Nalbari and Chirang districts, one ULFA-I militant was apprehended in Udalguri district.
