Over 20,000 consumers have responded so far in the North
East to give up their LPG subsidy. Sources in the Indian Oil Corporation said
that over 8,600 people have surrendered their subsidy in Assam alone following
the appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to do so.
Every consumer who gives up subsidy will help in providing
LPG connection to a BPL family. Official data revealed that highest 1,300
consumers under Indian Oil Corporation have given up their subsidy in Kamrup
Metro district in Assam. On the other hand, consumers in 15 districts have
surrendered their LPG subsidy under Hindustan Petroleum. Hoardings and banners
have been displayed at public places appealing more people to give up their LPG
subsidy.
