First Assamese film to be selected for the Asian Cinema Fund



Ushering in great honour and pride to the Assamese film industry, the Assamese feature film Kothanodi (The River of Fables) has been able to gain selection in the Asian Cinema Fund, South Korea and this has let the film secure grant for its Post Production Grant 2015. Remarkably, Kothanodi is the first and the only one Assamese film that has been able to gain this respected recognition and not to forget, it also becomes the second film from India to receive this honour. In that ground, this surely calls celebrations for the makers, actors and everybody else associated with the making of the film.

As a result of this honourable selection, the Assamese film will gain the opportunity to complete its post-production in Korea and then the film will also be premiered to the world in Asia’s biggest film festival, the Busan International Film Festival. The film festival is scheduled to be held in October this year.

The director of the film, Bhaskar Hazarika, while speaking to journalists, said, “Kothanodi has been a testing project, considering the scale of the film. The ACF grant validates the hard work and dedication of the crew over the past three years, and ensures the film’s final look will meet international benchmarks.”

Apart from being the maker of the film, Hazarika is also the writer of the Kothanodi script. On the other hand, Assamese novelist and Sahitya Akademi awardee Arupa Patangia Kalita has written the dialogues of the film. Some of the top-notch actors of the Assamese and Indian film industry are performing in the film who comprises of Seema Biswas, Adil Hussain, Zerifa Wahid, Kopil Bora, Urmila Mahanta and Asha Bordoloi. Dergaon-based Anurupa Hazarika has produced the film.

Hazarika also said, “After the world premiere in Busan in October, we plan to seek an India premiere at the International Film Festival of India in November, after which we shall aim for a nationwide release.”

It has to be mentioned here that the film is based on events and characters in Rasaraj Laxminath Bezbarua’s Buri Aai’r Xadhu.
